What is being scanned
With your passport or ID card, only the MRZ is scanned by default to determine the age. With a driver’s license, a small part of the Chip in the document must be read to extract the information.
What Data
By default, AgePop only searches for a valid / verifiable date of birth. This date is then used to calculate the age. More is not directly needed for a check.
Privacy and data
After a scan and verification of the age all data is automatically gone, because it was only in the memory for a short time. AgePop does not store any unique user data.

Scan and Data
AgePop scans your ID and determines your age. But how does that work exactly?
- Only the minimum data required to determine age is read.
- The data is not stored or communicated (not even temporarily). And is only present in the temporary memory of the system during the determination of age.
- Usually only the back of ID cards, residence permits and driving licenses (most commonly used ID cards) is scanned. This contains the MRZ (machine readable zone)
- A small part of the chip is read for a driving license to determine a date of birth
Help the seller/agency and they will help you!
When selling age-related articles and other age-related services from other institutions, they are required to verify your age.
If they do not, they run the risk of fines and even closure if sales are made to a minor.
A seller/agency is usually not interested in age verification using identity documents, which is often experienced as time-consuming and “not fun”.
Therefore, if you are under 25, show your ID and scan it with AgePop. This prevents discussions and allows the seller to serve you hospitably.
